Frauenthal 4 – A House of History and Modernity
Villa Frauenthal 4 is more than a company headquarters – it is a stage for lived history, the creative heart of the brand, and a private home. Since Iris von Arnim moved in back in 1989, the house has witnessed many facets of life: from children’s rooms and offices to lively celebrations and quiet moments of inspiration.
The most recent renovation carefully carries the historic building into the present – with clean lines, abundant light, and an aesthetic that reflects the DNA of IRIS VON ARNIM. The penthouse at the top of the villa unfolds as a highly personal world, shaped by cherished objects, distinctive materials, and a deep love for detail.

The Renovation – Clarity, Light, and the Iris von Arnim DNA
After more than three decades, 2023 marked the time for change.
“Over the years, the spaces had become constricted, dark, and unsettled. I wanted more light, more air, and above all, more clarity.” – Valentin von Arnim
The entrance hall was opened up, modern technology and lighting were integrated, while historic stucco and parquet were combined with glass, minimalist furnishings, and warm tones. The result is an atmosphere that tells a story of heritage while radiating calm and modernity.
“For me, the Iris von Arnim DNA means the union of classic and modern – something timeless, yet rooted in the present. That is exactly what these rooms reflect.” – Valentin von Arnim
Particularly striking are the untreated walls, where historic murals were carefully revealed, and the seamless connection between indoors and outdoors.
“It feels as if Iris’s world – her garden, her love of nature – flows right into the room.” – Valentin von Arnim

The History of the House
Located in Hamburg’s Harvestehude district, Villa Frauenthal 4 forms a twin house together with its sister property, Frauenthal 6, both built in 1893/94. In 1989, Iris von Arnim moved in with her son Valentin as well as the IRIS VON ARNIM company – a defining moment:
“It was exciting – there was always something going on. The office was a vibrant place full of people, creativity, and movement.” – Valentin von Arnim
Since then, the house has been more than a residence – it has become the beating heart of the brand. In 2003, the attic was transformed into a penthouse, and in 2023 the ground floor underwent a fundamental renovation – with the aim of creating more light, clarity, and openness.
The Penthouse – Private Spaces Full of Personality
The penthouse apartment under the roof is defined by openness: kitchen, living, and sleeping areas flow into one another, complemented by a conservatory and roof terrace.
“For me, one thing is most important: light, light, light!” – Iris von Arnim
Personal treasures lend the penthouse its soul: stone sculptures, keepsakes from travels, and a poncho from Colombia, now framed to resemble a modern artwork.
“My life is gathered here – every object carries a story. They are memories of a life well lived.” – Iris von Arnim
